Korean Conflict
After World War II, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel because it was a decision made between Russia and Japan. North Korea is a communist country where South Korea is a Democratic Country. On July 25, 1950, members of the North Korean and South Korean army met at the 38th parallel and began to open fire. At 11a.m. North Korea formally declared war. This war will be know as the Korean War. The Soviet Union provided supplies and aid to the North Korean and even provided volunteers in the North Korean military. The United States helped the South Koreans by destroying the bridge that China was using to send reinforcements to North Korea.
By September 1950, the North Koreans moved forcefully into South Korea. The war changed because the United States decided to step in and defend South Korea by pushing the North Koreans back. The Chinese felt threatened and sent 300,000 troops into North Korea. The Battle of Bloody Ridge was a ground combat battle that took place during the Korean War from August 18 to September 5, 195. During this battle the United Nations forces to seize a series of hills forming a ridge which they believed were being used as observation posts to call in artillery fire on a United Nations supply road. During the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, after the People's Republic of China entered the conflict, the People's Volunteer Army 9th Army go into the northeastern part of North Korea and surprised the US X Corps at the Chosin Reservoir area. During the Battle of Old Baldy, there are a series of five meetings over a period of 10 months for Hill 266 in west-central Korea, with vicious fighting before and after.
In July 1953, an Armistice was signed between Korea and Generals of the United Nations. This does not mean there will be peace but it is truce that will end 37 months of fighting. Today, North Korea is a Communist government and South Korea is Democratic Republic.
